Health and Safety policy

Man with Van Tufnell Park Health and Safety Policy

Man with Van Tufnell Park is committed to maintaining high standards of health and safety for our employees, contractors, customers, and the public. This policy supports our aim to provide a professional, reliable, and safe removal and delivery service, from small flat moves to larger home and office removals.

Purpose and Scope

This Health and Safety Policy sets out how we manage risks associated with our moving and transport activities. It applies to all members of staff, including drivers, porters, supervisors, managers, and any contractors working under our control, as well as to customers and visitors who may be affected by our operations.

The policy covers, but is not limited to, manual handling, loading and unloading vehicles, driving and journey management, use of equipment, working in customer premises, and general conduct on and around roads and properties.

Our Health and Safety Commitments

Man with Van Tufnell Park is committed to:

Identifying hazards and assessing risks associated with removal and transport work, then implementing appropriate control measures. Providing information, instruction, and training to help staff work safely and competently. Maintaining vehicles, equipment, and tools in a safe and roadworthy condition. Planning moves and deliveries to minimise risks to staff, customers, and the public. Complying with relevant health and safety and road traffic legislation. Investigating accidents, incidents, and near misses to prevent recurrence. Continually improving our health and safety performance.

Responsibilities

Overall responsibility for health and safety lies with the company management, who ensure that appropriate arrangements, resources, and monitoring systems are in place. Supervisors and team leaders are responsible for implementing this policy on a day-to-day basis, leading by example, and addressing health and safety concerns promptly.

All employees and contractors have a duty to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions. They must follow safe working practices, attend training, use equipment correctly, wear any required personal protective equipment, and report hazards, incidents, or concerns without delay.

Risk Assessment and Safe Working Practices

We carry out risk assessments for our typical removal and delivery activities, including manual handling of furniture and boxes, navigating stairs and tight access, loading and unloading vehicles, securing loads, and working in and around customer properties.

From these assessments we develop safe working practices, which may include the use of lifting aids, team lifts for heavy items, load securing methods inside vehicles, route planning, and specific precautions for fragile, bulky, or awkward items. Staff are made aware of these practices and must follow them at all times.

Manual Handling and Use of Equipment

Manual handling is a core part of removal work and carries a risk of injury if not managed correctly. Man with Van Tufnell Park provides guidance and training on correct lifting and carrying techniques, the importance of assessing each lift before attempting it, and the need to ask for assistance or use aids such as trolleys, dollies, or straps.

Where equipment is provided to assist with lifting or moving items, it must be used as instructed and inspected regularly. Faulty or damaged equipment must be taken out of service and reported so it can be repaired or replaced.

Vehicle Safety and Driving Standards

Our vehicles are maintained to a safe standard and are regularly inspected. Drivers are required to complete basic vehicle checks, such as tyres, lights, mirrors, and load security before starting journeys. Any defects or concerns must be reported so that corrective action can be taken.

Drivers must follow road traffic laws, drive courteously, and adjust their driving to suit traffic, weather, and road conditions. Journeys are planned to reduce unnecessary risks, and loads must be distributed and secured safely to prevent movement during transit.

Working on Customer Premises

When working in homes, offices, or other premises, our staff must act professionally and safely at all times. This includes protecting floors and surfaces where necessary, keeping pathways and access routes clear, and avoiding unsafe short cuts such as overreaching, rushing, or carrying loads that are too heavy or awkward.

Customers are asked to inform us about any known hazards, such as loose carpets, narrow staircases, low ceilings, or restricted parking and access. Our teams will consider these factors when planning and carrying out the work to minimise risks to all involved.

Personal Protective Equipment

Where identified by risk assessment, personal protective equipment may be provided, for example protective gloves, high visibility garments, or safety footwear. Employees must use this equipment as instructed and look after it appropriately. Any loss, damage, or defect should be reported promptly so that replacements can be arranged.

Accident Reporting and Emergency Procedures

All accidents, incidents, near misses, and cases of work-related ill health must be reported as soon as possible. This allows us to provide appropriate support, record what has occurred, and take steps to prevent a recurrence.

In the event of a serious incident or emergency, staff must prioritise safety, contact the relevant emergency services where necessary, and follow any agreed emergency arrangements. Customers are expected to cooperate with emergency measures during work at their premises.

Training, Communication, and Consultation

Man with Van Tufnell Park provides information and training appropriate to each role, including induction for new starters and ongoing instruction where risks or procedures change. Health and safety information is communicated clearly, and staff are encouraged to raise questions or suggestions.

We recognise the value of involving our teams in discussions about health and safety. Feedback from employees and customers is considered as part of our ongoing efforts to refine procedures and improve safe working practices for moves and deliveries.

Monitoring and Policy Review

We monitor our health and safety performance through incident reports, feedback, inspections, and reviews of working practices. Where shortcomings are identified, corrective actions are taken promptly.

This Health and Safety Policy is reviewed regularly and updated when necessary to reflect changes in legislation, industry standards, or the nature of our services. The latest version of the policy is made available to staff and customers on request.

Commitment to Continuous Improvement

By following this Health and Safety Policy, Man with Van Tufnell Park seeks to reduce the risk of accidents, injuries, and damage to property, while maintaining efficient and professional removal services. Everyone involved in our operations has a part to play in upholding these standards and contributing to a safe working environment.
